Solutions for VRLA, VLA, and NiCd Batteries
In critical power systems, batteries are essential for maintaining continuity during power interruptions. Because battery failures can occur unexpectedly, continuous monitoring is necessary to improve reliability, reduce risk, and support informed maintenance decisions. Alpais Battery Monitoring System (BMS) is designed for stationary battery applications.
Alpais BMS monitors individual batteries, strings, and environmental conditions in real time. The system supports VRLA, VLA, and NiCd batteries, including 2V, 6V, and 12V lead-acid batteries and 1.2V nickel-cadmium batteries.
One Alpais system can monitor up to 480 batteries. The system architecture consists of three main hardware components: Battery Module, String Module, and Control Module.
The modular structure of Alpais BMS supports scalable battery monitoring for a wide range of stationary battery systems:
- 1 Battery Module for each battery/cell
- 1 String Module for each string
- 1 Control Module for each location, up to 4 strings
- 1 String Module for up to 120 Battery Modules connectivity
Alpais BMS supports a wide range of application requirements. Battery banks used in UPS systems, data centers, utilities, telecom infrastructure, and industrial facilities require continuous visibility to maintain dependable backup power. Alpais delivers this visibility through real-time monitoring, long-term records, and a flexible battery monitoring architecture.
Why Alpais Battery Monitoring Solutions?
- Continuous measurement with historical records
- Automatic event notifications for users
- Charge and discharge cycle recording
- Individual battery voltage, temperature, and internal resistance values
- Optional battery voltage balancing
- Extended-capacity arrangements for strings with more than 120 batteries
- Automatic addressing for faster and easier installation
- Unlimited users with different authorization levels
- Monitoring of multiple locations from one single screen
Alpais BMS continuously measures the key battery parameters required to assess battery condition and long-term performance trends. It records internal resistance, battery voltage, and battery temperature for each individual battery, while also monitoring string voltage, string current, charge/discharge cycles, ambient temperature, and ambient humidity.
Alpais Battery Monitoring System can store up to 10 years of historical data for long-term analysis and maintenance planning.

Alpais Battery Monitoring System supports two notification levels: Warning and Critical. This helps users respond earlier, plan maintenance actions more effectively, and manage both time and budget with better visibility.
Flexible deployment: Alpais can operate with a company server, a cloud server, or a Control Module with an embedded server. In the embedded server option, Alpais Software is pre-installed and runs directly on the Control Module, where historical data is also stored.
Alpais Battery Voltage Balancing
The Battery Voltage Balancing feature helps maintain individual battery voltages at the desired charge level within each string. By supporting a more even voltage distribution, the system reduces the negative effects of overcharging and undercharging on battery performance and service life.
Alpais Battery Voltage Balancing helps extend string life and improve usable capacity, making it a valuable feature for efficient battery management in backup power and energy storage systems.
By regulating individual battery voltages, Alpais helps protect batteries against overcharge and undercharge conditions. Keeping battery voltages within the desired range contributes to longer service life and more stable performance.
Extended Capacity for Industrial Batteries
Many industrial applications use high-voltage battery strings with more than 120 batteries connected in series. This is common in data centers, UPS systems, and NiCd applications, where one string may include well over 120 cells. For many battery monitoring systems, this becomes a limitation.
Alpais solves this challenge through its flexible software architecture and communication design. Although one String Module normally supports up to 120 Battery Modules, Alpais can be configured so that longer strings are still monitored through the same user interface. In this way, the system can monitor up to 480 cells in a single string arrangement through a scalable system architecture.
With the brilliant and flexible Alpais Software design and the hard work of the Alpais R&D team, this problem is solved by extending the communication line between the Battery Modules. Normally, 1 String Module can control up to 120 Battery Modules. However, with this arrangement, if a battery bank consists of more than 120 batteries/cells on 1 string, the user monitors all of them on the Alpais User Interface. In this way, the Alpais system can monitor up to 480 cells on 1 string.
Additional BMS Features for Industrial Battery Applications
Industrial battery environments can present additional risks such as hydrogen gas accumulation and electrolyte-related issues. For this reason, Alpais BMS can be extended with additional components such as the Ground Fault Detection Solution, helping improve battery room conditions, increase visibility, and support more reliable backup power operation.
