Comprehensive Battery Monitoring Solutions for Diverse Applications
In the realm of critical power infrastructure, the batteries are the most crucial components. The batteries can unexpectedly fail due to their nature. Therefore, it’s important to take control of the batteries to ensure business continuity which depends on the backup power. Taking control of the batteries is only possible by using a battery monitoring system. Alpais Battery Monitoring System (BMS) is designed for stationary battery systems.
Alpais BMS monitors individual batteries and strings along with the environmental conditions. Alpais Battery Monitoring System solutions are used for VRLA, VLA, and NiCd batteries. Alpais BMS offers to monitor lead-acid batteries with nominal voltages 2V, 6V, and 12V, plus 1.2V nickel-cadmium batteries.
Alpais can monitor up to 480 batteries on 1 single system. There are 3 main hardware components in the system: Battery Module, String Module, and Control Module.
• 1 Battery Module is for each battery/cell
• 1 String Module is for each string,
• 1 Control Module is for each location, up to 4 strings
• 1 String Module is for up to 120 Battery Modules connectivity
Alpais BMS can cover a variety of requirements of different application areas. When a battery bank is used in a field, the batteries require monitoring and controlling. UPS and data centers, utilities, telecom, and industrial areas mostly use battery banks to ensure constant operation. Alpais can add value to these application areas with its;
• Constant measuring and historical records
• Notifying the users when an event occurs
• Charge/discharge cycles recording
• Individual battery voltage, temperature, and internal resistance values
• Optionally battery voltage balancing
• Extended capacity arrangements for a string that includes more than 120 batteries
• Automatically Addressing feature for significantly decreased installation time and cost
• Unlimited users can be added with different authorization levels
• Multiple locations can be controlled from one single screen
Constantly measure the most important battery parameters to indicate battery health and life trends. Alpais BMS measures and records internal resistance, battery voltage, and battery temperature for individual batteries in real-time. Alpais BMS has a string-based structure and thus monitors strings separately. Alpais BMS measures the overall string voltage, string current, and charge/discharge cycles of the batteries. Along with these, Alpais BMS monitors environmental parameters like temperature and humidity, which are important for battery health. Alpais

On the Alpais Battery Monitoring System, there are 2 levels of notifications; Warning and Critical. It provides more time for the user to take action. Furthermore, it allows the planning of the budget and time.
Flexibility :The server can be chosen by the user. They can either use a company server or a cloud server. Also, the user can choose the "Control Module with an Embedded Server" option. In this option, Alpais Software is pre-installed into the Control Module and runs on it. Historical data is stored in the Control Module.
The “Battery Voltage Balancing” feature aims to maintain the individual battery voltage at the desired charge voltage level for each string. By doing so, the system ensures that all battery voltages in the string are evenly distributed, preventing any bad effects that could result from overcharging or discharging the batteries.

Alpais Battery Voltage Balancing feature helps extend the life of the battery string and increase its capacity, making it an essential tool for efficient battery management. By employing this feature, users can optimize battery performance and ensure the reliable operation of their energy storage, and battery backup systems.
By regulating the voltage of individual batteries; Alpais protects the individual batteries from overcharging and undercharging situations. Since the individual voltages are kept at the desired voltage levels, battery service life is prolonged.

Extended Capacity for Industrial Batteries
In industrial areas, high-voltage battery packs, consisting of more than 120 batteries in one serial connection (string), are chosen. Some of the Datacenter applications the UPS require 480 DCV, and most NiCd applications consist of almost more than 200 cells in one string. This is a pain point for battery monitoring systems in the market. Because, usually a BMS can monitor 32 to 120 batteries on one string. However, due to the hazardous environments of industrial areas, the need for extra protection like a battery monitoring system is essential.
With the brilliant and flexible Alpais Software design and the hard work of the Alpais R&D team, this problem is solved by extending the communication line between the Battery Modules. Normally, 1 String Module can control up to 120 Battery Modules. However, with this arrangement, if a battery bank consists of more than 120 batteries/cells on 1 string, the user monitors all of them on the Alpais User Interface. In this way, the Alpais system can monitor up to 480 cells on 1 string.
Additional Features for Industrial Battery Applications
Due to the hazardous environment by its nature of industrial areas, the hydrogen gas leaks, and the level of electrolytes are assigned to the pain points of the using of industrial batteries. For this reason, Alpais BMS can offer extra components for a better environment for the batteries thus ensuring reliable power.
