SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
ALPAIS BATTERY MONITORING SYSTEM STRUCTURE
The general Alpais Battery Monitoring System has 3 main hardware components; Battery Module, String Module, and Control Module. Alpais BMS is a modular solution that consists of 1 Battery Module for each battery, 1 String Module for each string, and 1 Control Module for up to 4 String Modules. The String Module can connect up to 120 Battery Modules and 1 Control Module can monitor up to 480 Battery Modules on up to 4 String Modules.
For the battery packs that consist of more than 120 batteries/cells, please take a look at the Industrial Battery Monitoring Solution details.
ALPAIS SYSTEM COMPONENTS
Battery Module
Battery Modules are designed for lead-acid batteries and NiCd batteries. There are different types of Battery Module. The types are Battery Module for 6V, Battery Module for 12V, and Battery Module for 1,2V/2V.
Every Battery Module is responsible for the measurement of the most important data of batteries; Internal Resistance, Battery Voltage, and Battery Temperature.
The Battery Module has a transparent cover for on-site detection. With the 3 LED sources on the Battery Module and the String Module, the user or a technician can easily detect the affected battery in the battery room.
The distinctive feature of Alpais BMS and Battery Module is: AUTOMATICALLY ADDRESSING. This feature is developed for easy installation, commissioning, maintenance, and replacement processes. With Alpais BMS’s Automatically Addressing feature, the time and cost of these processes are significantly decreased.
String Module
The String Module has the same case as the Battery Module with 3 LED sources.
The String Module is suitable with every Battery Module. The String Module is
responsible for the measurement of String Voltage, String Current, Ambient
Temperature, Ambient Humidity, and charge/discharge cycles.
Along with the individual battery measurements, Alpais appreciates the health and service life of the batteries depend on the battery environment and how to treat the batteries.
Therefore, the ambient values and charge/discharge cycles are consistently monitored as a standard in Alpais BMS.
The String Module is also responsible for Battery Module data transmitting to the Control Module.
Control Module
The Control Module is the center of the Alpais BMS. It collects and processes the transmitted data from Battery Modules and the String Modules.
The Control Module has 4 string ports and can monitor up to 480 batteries on 4 parallel strings. Alpais BMS has a string-based structure, thanks to that, different types of batteries on separated strings can be monitored with 1 Control Module.
The Control Module can communicate with other monitoring systems via RS485 or an ethernet line. It has also dry contacts that can be utilized for 3rd party sensors. The Control Module supports SNMP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, etc.
The Control Module provides up to 10 years of historical data capacity.
The Control Module needs to be connected by an ethernet cable to a PC to monitor the system.
There are 2 types of Control Module. The main difference is that one of them has an Embedded Server. The Control Module with an Embedded Server has pre-installed Alpais Software in it. Also, the data is stored in the Control Module. Thus, there is
no requirement for installing Alpais Software to an external server or PC. This solution is developed to decrease the time of the commissioning process. Besides this, the Control Module with an Embedded Server provides Cyber Security to the user.
